Fellowship Overview
The CYD Fellowships are a strategic talent initiative jointly established by EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) and the Cyber-Defence (CYD) Campus. The program invites brilliant minds from all over the world to develop innovative solutions in security, privacy, digital trust, and data science by bridging basic academic discoveries with applied military and civilian cyber-defence systems.
Fellowship Tracks & Funding Structure
The program is Fully Funded across all tracks, supporting living costs, salary scales, specific research materials, and academic travel:
- CYD Master Thesis Fellowships:
- Duration: 6 Months
- Inclusions: Monthly living allowance (CHF 2,500/month) and initial research allocations (up to CHF 1,500).
- CYD Doctoral Fellowships:
- Duration: 4 Years (with a possible 1-year extension based on review).
- Inclusions: Full standard institutional PhD salary, annual research costs (CHF 3,000/year), and dedicated conference travel support (CHF 5,000/year).
- CYD Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowships:
- Duration: Up to 2 Years
- Inclusions: Postdoctoral level salary contributions, annual research materials funding (CHF 3,000/year), and conference costs (CHF 5,000/year).

- Protection of confidentiality, integrity, and operational availability of cyber and cyber-physical infrastructure.
- Advanced information sharing, data fusion, and secure crowdsourcing.
- Data Science & AI methods optimized for analyzing technological and cyber security metrics.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality: Completely open to all nationalities globally with no age restrictions.
- Academic Fit: Applicants must be currently pursuing a Master's degree, enrolled in a Swiss PhD track, or transitioning into a new postdoctoral research environment.
- Faculty Endorsement: Every candidate must secure a formal endorsement letter from an eligible professor employed at a higher education institution in Switzerland (such as EPFL or ETH Zurich).
