Eligible Fields of Work
The fellowship proudly encourages cross-disciplinary collaboration across three main divisions:
- Humanities and Social Sciences: Comprehensive subfields including Anthropology, Economics, History, Law, Linguistics, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Public Policy, and Sociology.
- Creative Arts: Creative Writing (Fiction, Poetry, Nonfiction, Memoirs), Journalism, Playwriting, Music Composition, Film, Video, and Visual Arts.
- Science, Engineering, and Mathematics: Advanced subfields including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Astrophysics, and Statistics.
Strict Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must possess an extraordinary record of independent achievement. Because this is a mid-to-senior level residency, specific benchmarks must be met:
- Degree Standing: Not open to active graduate or doctoral students (unless the dissertation is officially accepted and the degree is fully pending). Former Harvard Radcliffe fellows are ineligible.
- Humanities & Social Sciences: Must hold a completed PhD or equivalent terminal degree at least two years prior to appointment and have published a monograph or at least two articles in peer-reviewed journals.
- Science, Engineering, & Mathematics: Must hold a completed PhD in the proposed project area at least two years prior to appointment and have published at least five articles in refereed journals.
- Creative Artists & Journalists: Must fulfill discipline-specific criteria (e.g., professional artists must have at least 5 years of professional experience with solo/group exhibitions; creative writers must have a published book or multiple major published pieces).
- Practitioners: Must have at least ten years of relevant experience holding senior leadership positions in non-profits, government sectors, or private enterprises.
